In this video attorney Francis Jackson of the law firm of Jackson & MacNichol conducts a live Q & A session on Social Security Disability Training and answers the question: If you have absolutely no earnings but have $30,000 in the bank do they look at assets? Yes, they do look at assets and that would disqualify you. But typically what happens is that you are in a spend-down situation. So you would qualify, but they would require you to spend down that money to get below the cutoff rate which if you are single is below $2,000 and if you are a couple you need to get below $3,000.
